K-Mart Tree Pixel Upgrade
RGB Pixels added to an incandescent fold-up Christmas tree
I have eight old standard incandescent light K-Mart folding Outdoor Christmas trees that are still working fine which I use most of
the time as a centerpiece / focal point of my annual Christmas holiday animated light & music show. The sequencing looked
pretty good with these but I thought they would look so much better if I could add color effects in addition to the white lights, so I
started thinking about how to go about implementing an RGB upgrade on them. I shelved the project for a couple of years for
various reasons, until I discovered a fairly new style of pixel strings that had become available. These were not nearly as bulky
as the typical 'bullet' pixels and I though maybe these might work out well on my trees so in about mid 2023 I started working on
how best to implement adding this upgrade to the trees. I went ahead and purchased a bulk spool of the new tiny digital pixel
string lights with 10mm pixel spacing, assembled one of my trees, and set about figuring out how to attach the pixel string to the
tree, while still keeping the ability to dissasemble it and store it back in the same box. Following is the progression of how this
project came to completion.
